The trap works every time. We have even killed two at once!! I use peanut butter as bait. If there are rats, if there is bait in the trap, the critter will be dead no escape EVER! 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Don't seem to work By Darin Hyatt I have had these out there for 6 months and caught nothing at all. No false snaps or anything, the rats just don't seem to like them. So I ordered a couple Woodstream M144 Power Kill Rat Traps and put one out there and have caught two rats in it in the last month and a half. Maybe the bait got contaminated somehow and I should change it (use cheese with a dab of peanut butter on it.). But I has used the same exact bait in Woodstreams, without changing it, and never have a problem catching rats that stray into our property (neighbors are slobs and I know rats breed over there).I can't argue with others that this has worked for, but for me the rats just don't seem to like it and won't go near it. So, I can't tell if it will do the job, but really does it matter if you can't get them to trigger it? 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great Trap - Long Lasting By AI Shopper We live in FL where rats are a major problem. (Y'all thought it was just alligators!) We were given 3 of these traps by our local exterminator 3 years ago. They have worked so well I have purchased more. We have caught many rats in our VERY hot attics with no problems related to the plastic. We have no cracks, breaks or implosion as described by others. The plastic T-Rex has great advantage over the standard wood/spring trap which we also use and are now replacing. It is not uncommon for the kill to be "messy" with both kinds of traps. Rats are also cannibals which can leave the death scene looking like something out of a CSI segment, as has happened in our garage attic. The T-Rex traps make it very easy to dump the victim and then wash and de-odorize the trap! It is difficult/impossible to remove rat parts/odor from the wood on the standard spring trap. You might say just throw it away including the victim-not with the number of rats we've caught! We use peanut butter for bait. The small cup keeps the bait from running all over in attic heat. I do tie a string from the trap to a beam as our large rats can drag these (as well as standard wood traps).I would highly recommend these. All my neighbors have them in their attics.
